Russ Harris is the author of the international bestselling self-help book entitled The Happiness Trap. Dr. Harris is a globally-renowned trainer for Acceptance & Commitment Therapy (ACT). He conducts workshops on ACT around the world and provides ACT training to thousands of health professionals, counselors, coaches, doctors and therapists. He has also authored two ACT textbooks including ACT Made Simple and four ACT-based self help books including Reality Slap.

    This is the talk I needed to hear. Russ pointed out so many things that I experience and struggle with. I HATE zombies;; maybe that’s because I struggle so hard with my own zombie impulses? The ACT concept and flexibility makes so much sense, and Russ’ explanation of the three basic mindfulness processes, after leading us through the exercise of cognitive fusion and defusion, finally broke through my confusion regarding mindfulness and its benefits. Thank you both so much!

    “From the little bit of reading I’ve done, the Buddhist scriptures make it very clear that Buddha learned mindfulness from a yogi. That’s in the original Buddhist scriptures here. In the yoga tradition, mindfulness goes back 4,000 years. There are also mindfulness practices in Judaism that are 4,000 years old. Also in Taoism, although the Taoist scriptures were written about the same time as the Buddhist scriptures, about 2,500 years ago. The Taoist teachings are thought to be about 7,000 years old. Mindfulness is ancient. I just … It’s not that it bothers me. It’s just that it’s inaccurate to say mindfulness comes from Buddhism….”

    I’m no expert either but what the Buddha said was Samma sati. right mindfulness., or wise mindfulness. He offered it with in the susinct and crystal clear framework of the eight fold path, right mindfulness being the seventh. That’s what was special about it. He offers the complete framework to use not just one part….The rest of the path is basically what the mindfulness movement is trying to get its head around. Don’t get me wrong please. I’m glad that people can reconsider developing ethics, concentration and wisdom. The world sure needs more of it all. Metta,

    I really like the notion of bringing curiosity to our thoughts–exploring what is going on with them and what we can learn from them. I have found this so helpful to me over the past few years. I do it by writing the thoughts down as they come to me or writing down emotionally charged thoughts I have had over the course of a day or days.

    Can you please filter all the audio meditations because there is a huge amount of noise in the background and it is not very convenient to meditate. I am sure a lot of people might have felt that. I would really be grateful to you if could do this simple thing!!
