getting engaged to the meditation part which i thought wud be the most difficult as my mind wonders away very quickly …. excited to learn more from wonderful people everyday 🙂

  2. Zander Paris

I was thinking Wow!!!!!! how wonderful a full 31 days of free mindfulness that I can share in and experience now and whenever I need it in the future. I thought how wonderful that these moments are free and available to all who would benefit from them. I found previously that mindfulness courses and the like are a money making machine that are beyond the financial restrictions of many people. Mainly the people who would most benefit from them. So I thought I will build up the available downloads and talks and meditations and use them now and again in the future whenever I feel the need. How disappointed to find that to keep a copy of the “free” resources will cost me either $79, $99 or $149. I know I can follow this event for the 31 days of October but mindfulness is an ongoing practice so it would have been nice to have access to the resources for future reference. So here I am on Day 2 feeling kind of disillusioned. I will continue my mindfulness practice and daily mindful living (completely free) offline now. 🙂

    1. Kate Parsons

I’m going to enjoy the 31 days while I have it, but I agree with you. The practice of mindfulness is beneficial to all, and should be available to all. I think it would be better to have an option to donate but not make it a requirement (also, it’s not a “donation” when the dollar amount is set – some people might be able to afford $25, but not $79) in order to have full access.

      1. Anthony Davis

I agree with Kate and Karrie…and all the others. The material is good, yet it tends to “dampen” the excitement when something advertised as “Free” isn’t really. I’d like to be able to go back and re-watch or at least re-read the transcripts to learn this better. Yet, when dealing with family health issues, the priorities for funding go somewhere else. A “Donation” is one thing…a set fee is not a donation.

      1. MarieClaire Martinez

I will also enjoy the free 31 days. But I just found out the payable free access and am a bit disillusioned.
As a lot of you said it is for everyone. And even Mark Williams yesterday was saying how important it was also for people leaving in poverty… Obviously they cannot afford keeping everything. At least everybody can enjoy the 31 days. I am grateful for that part.

      2. Mariah Rist

Loved day 2! Thanks again for sharing this wonderful resource and opportunity with the outside community. I can’t wait to continue my learning through the 31 days and hopefully share it with those around me. What an honor to be part of an amazing project!

    2. Angelika Graham-Rau

Hello Zander Paris, there are marvellous resources available (talks, meditations, Q&A, chants) that anyone can listen to and download for free. These resources work by giving “dana” – if you feel like donating. I can share the URLs of these resources, if you would like to. You find me on facebook under my name Angelika Graham-Rau. May you be well and happy! Angelika

      1. Zander Paris

Thank you for the info Angelika. I do have access to many resources available on the internet. I particularly enjoy Tara Brach guided meditations among others. I am not a facebook user but I just wanted to say thanks for your offer.
Enjoy your day, best wishes Zander 🙂

    3. MARIANA PELLIZZON

I feel the same, Zander, a bit dissapointed because I won’t be able to get the copies. But it’s ok, I’m still happy to have the opportunity to follow this summit daily.

    4. Hi Zander, Matt here one of founders…

I’ll agree with you that its a tricky balance to get right what we’re trying to do accomplish here.

The summit is a not a for profit project. All proceeds raised will be going back to the mindfulness based charities that are figuring out how to help people most in need to teach them mindfulness too.

Melli and I have donated months of our time making this happen and all the expenses to build the platform, host all the servers etc… its not free for us to give anyone in the world a wonderful deep dive into the world of mindfulness.

After learning and practicing like this for 31 days, many people also find that practice mindfulness

You do have access to free resources to continue to meditate.
The 31 day challenge is basically a mindfulness course in itself that you will be receiving over email over this month that teaches you. You can come back to that along with the free meditations that are available to download.
      http://themindfulnesssummit.com/31days/

There’s also the gifts page http://themindfulnesssummit.com/free-gifts/ where you can download 10 different meditations and talks with our experts to continue to use. A great ebook that’s usually not free and a link to an MBSR course (I completed MBSR not very long ago, its a great program)…

Finally, this is not the end, its just the beginning… Melli and I have plans to provide other content and resources to this community for free after the summit is over…

Keep tuning in, you’ll enjoy the show and likely learn a thing or 2 from some of the best in this space…

      With warmth, Matt

      1. Zander Paris

Thank you Matt for replying. My words weren’t meant as a criticism of what you and Melli are doing here and I wish for you every success with this project and any further mindfulness events you are involved with. I will look in every day for the 31 days of October as I am always looking for more info and resources to help me with my ongoing practice.
Thanks and have a great day, Zander 🙂

      2. Toni Lechte

Thankyou that gives us clear sense of what’s available. The summit is a great opportunity to link with others and it’s a very user friendly site. 31 days- aren’t we lucky!

      3. Tiffany Gaudette

Thank You guys at The Mindfulness Summit to provide a rare opportunity. I have looked into similar courses that range from 200-500$ Here in Toronto, Ontario! Greatly appreciated.

      4. Avrilod O'Donnell

Thank you so much Matt and Melli for making this available for free. I am grateful to have a laptop and wifi to be able to attend in from my home in Cork Ireland

    5. I found the terms of this summit were clearly spelled out. I was shocked to find out how low the cost is for getting full permanent access to these conversations. Mindfulness is free. Beautifully crafted interviews with world experts, video recorded and presented on line is not free. I think I will make a donation!

    6. Morya

You don’t need to keep the resources or buy the books 🙂 The key to it is not in the reading about it or listening to videos etc, it is in the practice right? Here is a completely free resource for you.

Sit quietly and comfortably. Bring your attention to your body for a moment, then to your breath. Notice your in breath and out breath. If you notice a thought taking your focus away from your breath observe the thought without judgement and let it drift way without becoming entangled with it.

Repeat for as long as you wish and throughout your day as many times as possible.

Lots more resources might reduce the time available for mindfulness! 🙂

    7. Simone Wilde

All these self help on line courses are like that. Free for the duration with the OPTION to purchase at the end. Even Deepok Chopra and Oprah have one through out the year and the big Hay house summit. Getting 30 days free is really amazing. If you were taking a week-end seminar with any of these speakers it would cost in the high hundreds or thousands so REALIZE THIS IS A GREAT GIFT!!! OPTION to purchase not REQUIRED! Take notes that’s what I do if it’s important!

    8. Leona Doig

There are many options to support your practice with free or low cost resources online. Look at Youtube and you’ll find thousands of guided meditations and talks on mindfulness from a variety of speakers. A simple internet search will locate a number of text and video resources. Plenty of options for all income levels. Considering the facilitator’s and teacher’s time invested in this Summit, not to mention their own extensive training and education that they’ve invested in themselves to bring this to others, and about 310 hours of “retreat”, it is a true gift and a bargain even at $149.

    9. Mae Reeves

I guess I have a little different of a perspective on this free course? If this were a free seminar (or summit or conference) in person at some resort or conference facility, you would only have access to that day’s material on the day it was being shared by the speaker who was sharing it that day. You would only be able to take notes while you are in the class and there would be no recording or video to look back on.
If I look at it in that way, this is A HUGE and amazing resource they are providing free of charge, where the weekend or even week long summits cost hundreds of dollars. I see it as it is free but the additional resources & information have a cost. Just like if I were at a free month long summit, I shouldn’t expect to get Joseph’s books for free as well, just because he is speaking and has them there with him. I am grateful for the information provided and treat it as a gift and I appreciate the information I’m getting even more so, since I will not be able to go back to it but, that I will have to soak it all in and find inspiration from it to seek more information where I can.

      1. Avrilod O'Donnell

We live in a commercial world, people have to make a living and pay their bills. Matt and Milli and all the presenters have given us access this wonderful summit for free. We should not expect more.

    10. Carole Novitske

Perhaps if the resources were available for use at a later date i would put off what I am doing today until some indefinite period in the future, and this experience would never happen. I am happy that I must use it now or lose it.

    11. Julie Anne

Friends, there are literally thousands of mindfulness resources out there for free as well as books from libraries. Check out dharmaseed.org for free talks from many of the featured teaches and lots more. There is stuff on UTube and mindful websites. This is just another avenue to explore. Peace & Joy to all.

  3. Allyson DeMaagd

For those wondering about daily emails, my understanding is there aren’t any. This is from the first email I received after registering: “We won’t be sending daily reminders via email so make sure to go to the website each day to tune in to the day’s events. We’ll be posting reminders and updates every day on social media, so make sure to follow us here on Facebook to stay in the loop.”

    I hope that helps.

  4. Hugh Alexander

This happened yesterday, but is there any way the host/interviewer can not continuously be saying, “right,” “yeah,” “mmm hmmm,” “uh huh,” “yeah, yep, yep,” “right, right” or otherwise be making noises while the Expert is talking? It is really distracting and makes it hard to watch/listen.

    Thanks!

    1. michele_fallon@yahoo.com

My thoughts exactly about the interjections. I tried to listen first thing in the morning laying with my eyes closed listening and had to turn it off 15 minutes into it because the interjections ( “right,” “yeah,” “mmm hmmm,” “uh huh,” “yeah, yep, yep,” “right, right” or otherwise) were all I started focusing on, not what the interviewee was saying. I will try again later today.

        1. barbara

I felt annoyed too at first, then used the practice to let it go. “Curiously, I am annoyed by her comments”. . I sent myself an intention to release my judgment/attachment and it worked. Thanks Melli and Matt for this gift. You have done a wonderful thing here and I am grateful to be listening.

    2. Pat Williams

@Hugh, I agree that the host/interviewer’s constant ‘yeahs’ and ‘uh huhs’ are totally distracting and annoying. It is like the host feels that the expert is really only talking to her rather than to others watching the interview. Very unprofessional.

    3. Mae Reeves

I thought the same thing as well at first, then I recognized “ah ha, that’s judgement, that’s me judging. That’s me finding something distracting.”.
It was only when I observed my discomfort with the small interjections, that i was able to better focus on the speaker & hear her agreements the same way I would notice rainfall outside of the place someone was speaking.

    4. susan flanagan

I actually rather like the “conversational” format. Most people, when engaged in conversation, pepper their “listening” with the same type of comments. I know I do (though now I’ll likely be more conscious of it!). I like watching the facial expressions of both participants and the various “rights,” “yeahs,” and “hmms” are consistent with the interviewer’s expressions. It might be more difficult to simply listen to the recording.

  5. Alejandra Almada

On yesterday´s talk Mark Williams talked about the resistance to just do it. The practice certainly makes a difference on your day, on your routine and you can really “see” and feel the difference when you skipped the practice. So why does this resistance keep coming? what happens?

    1. Graham Twist

Good question that is not easy to answer. it’s a curious thing that given most Mindfulness meditative practices often elicit feelings of improved wellbeing in one form or another, why the memory of this does not seem to positively reinforce the behaviour of readily repeating the practice at a later occasion. I’d guess that perhaps we are so stuck in “doing” mode most of the time, finding time to enter “being” mode with meditative practice feels like just another thing on our “to do” list and therefore becomes aversive. I too would like to hear others views on your question.

  6. Brandy Collins

thanks to the organizers for this wonderful opportunity. i have felt in need of assistance and this has come at a time when it couldn’t be needed more. thank you, thank you, thank you.

    1. Cheryl Caris

I couldn’t agree with you more Brandy. I have also felt the need for something to help to internally calm the craziness of life. I have enjoyed the first two days and am committed to continuing. I will also be purchasing lots of books to get more detail on mindfulness. Thank you for making this available.

  7. ber mc+fadden

Thank you all for providing this opportunity. I am so please with my Self for making the commitment to listen and practice. Simple and easy – i love that. Bringing more peace to the world one person at a time, one breath at a time. …and to have Courage -strength of heart to follow the path of mindful living. What an adventure! Xxx Much love from me in Cork Ireland X

  8. F R+Cole

Great start and can anyone suggest how i/we get a stressed out sister, brother, friend, colleagues to join and explore. I am talking about the angry and I am really tough I will get myself through this tough time. Those around can se the suffering and lack of self compassion and yet we have to get them engaged and drink these wisdoms.

    1. Angelika Graham-Rau

For almost two years now I have been daily practicing Vipassana / Mindfulness /Insight Meditation and from my “still little” experience I may say, that a truly working way of suggesting Mindfulness as a practise to others is to walk the path of Mindfulness / Vipassnana and to meet others from the “internal space” of ever growing awareness, openness and friendliness.

Amazingly enough this approach is really for the good of all, since my mind organism relaxes and so do the other ones.

  9. Michelle Brockman

Very, very grateful for this fantastic opportunity. The first two days have been far beyond my expectations and I look forward to the rest of the month. Thank you Melli and everyone involved in trying to bring mindfulness to the masses.

  10. Angelika Graham-Rau

What a deep pleasure it was to listen to Melly and Joseph Goldstein. Thank you very much, Melly for bringing this event into life. Thank you very much, Josef Goldstein for sharing your wisdom and experience with us!

  11. Susannah Hay

I’ve been doing mindfulness meditation since 1999, but there’s always room for learning more; so I happily signed up for the summit and the challenge. I learn best by reading, so instead of downloading the videos, I downloaded the first-day’s transcript, filed it on my computer, and read it from start to finish.

However, this morning when I went online to download the second day’s transcript, I discovered that if I want the transcripts beyond Day 1, I have to pay $79, which translates in my country’s currency to $104.62! This is more than I can afford, so I am unsubscribing and will go back to my regular practice unenlightened [pun intended].

    1. Zander Paris

Hi Susannah, I like you was disappointed at the cost for the rest of the transcripts. In life things aren’t always as they seem…Sadly this is money I do not have at the moment. I just wanted to say to you good luck in continuing your mindfulness meditation and may it bring you much peace insight and joy…
Best wishes Zander ( a fellow unenlightened summiter 🙂 )

  12. Michelle

Thank you ???? enjoyed the tips and pitfalls and the guided practice! I noticed my breath was restricted at the start but free flowing by the second round of asking us to notice it. I can’t wait to add more little tips to my tool bag both for myself and my clients I work on mindfulness with during equine assisted psychotherapy. Thank you again to all the speakers and Mrs Mindfulness for this wonderful opportunity.

  13. Zara Ellis

Deeply moved by the awakening to higher self, relating human experiences as individual and collective, however limitless with meditative practice. ZES, Qualla Boundary, WNC

  14. Norma

The lady detracts, rather than adds to the sessions. Her questions are very long-winded and repetitive. I find it rather distracting. Rather let the speakers get on with their presentations.

  15. Irene

so here I am,stressed, just found out the time expired and I missed the first FREE lecture. Now it has taken me a lot of time to register my ultra high security password to listen to something that is supposed to be FREE. And to finish off I thought I was getting a 15-20 minute talk only to find it is 50 minutes which I don’t have time for and by the time I do it may have expired, do I need this added stress? I like the thought behind this idea but it is not turning out to be as ultruistic as it sounds.

  16. John Fisher

Argh! I almost can’t listen. I’m very grateful that this has been offered but the interviews are not working for me. Too many interruptions and noise from the interviewer!

  17. Veronica Yu

From some of the previous comments, I have to wonder, where has the gratefulness for all the work and effort taken to produce this venture gone??

We are all free to tune in or out or produce what “we” might feel is “better” and do so with our own resources if this project isn’t “exactly” to your liking.

Why the criticism rather than follow the process of this exciting program, as is, and see it as a generous gift to the world, with option to help out financially, rather than pick at everything?

Kudos to Matt & Melli for taking this on in the first place and continuing to put in the hours managing this for the entire month. I salute you and your team!

    1. Sophie Pal

Thank you Veronica for saying exactly what i was thinking. Very little in life is free. Be grateful what is being offered, take what you can from it each day…live in the moment. Your brain will retain what it needs to for you. Joseph spoke about awakening from afflicted emotions and to free the mind of greed, hatred and disillusion and mindful communication. Many of the negative comments are coming from exactly that place. Think about it! It’s your choice.

Enjoy what is being offered and pay it forward in your life. If you need more, you can do more research. It is amazing to me that Mellie, Matt and the all these experts came together to bring awareness to an important practice in such a crazy world via a technology we did not have before. To connect over 100,000 people who can use this information to inspire others and make the world a better place. Gratitude is everything. THANK YOU !!

    2. Lesley Rojahn

I agree with you Veronica, where is the mindfulness in conversation? I am grateful to all who have put in time, money and energy to offer this for free for 31 days.

    3. Joanne Johnson

I so agree with you! I understood completely what to expect as far as the availability of the 31 days of Mindfulness by reading the information at signup.
I am even more grateful and happy with what I am receiving and the direction it has set me going than I could have imagined!
Many, many thanks to the organizers. Eternally gratefiul.
      Joanne

    4. michelle lavey

Thank you Veronica. I completely agree and appreciate that you provided gentle words that echo my thoughts. I am so grateful for this summit opportunity and encouraging my daughters to participate. This summit is free and in my experience the donation/purchase price (if desired) is a tremendous value for the content. Namaste.

    5. Liz

Thank you for making this point Veronica.. I have been surprised at the tone of some of the comments on this forum: they seem unkind and lacking in recognition of the the amount of work, energy and courage that will have gone into getting this programme together.

  18. Leire Garcia

Thank you so much for this opportunity. I feel so grateful to enjoy wisdom and so much knowledge from the speakers and wonderful host Mrs. Mindufulness. Thanks again!!

    1. Lee Mccullough

Thank you I find this an excellent way to kick start my dropped meditation . Part of the practice is acceptance and non judgment I am grateful for this opportunity.

  19. Gustavo Rodriguez+Baltar

    Hi Greetings from Uruguay !!!
I have experienced the first two sessions. Great learning opportunity !!!!
On the other hand, yesterday and today I had problems to log in…..I had to change both days my passwords as the system didn´t accept it and send and ERROR message. I lost quite some time yesterday but today I was able to change my password faster. I do hope tomorrow I´ll be able to enter right away. Is there anyway to go directly to the log in page ???
Apart for this little issue CONGRATULATIONS !!! Great work.

  20. agi smith

Day 2: feeling calm, centered and gratitude. For those above who are complaining: your ego is creating an obstacle to your own enlightenment. Find the fruits of wisdom that speak to you even it is one lesson. Melli and all the speakers have so generously offered to do this for free. All of this costs money and time. Find the gratitude when arriving daily to receive teachings from the best around the globe. We who are attending are in harmony and a quest to something better, not only our lives but those outside of us.
    I am g-r-a-t-e-f-u-l…..
    Agi

  21. Karen seals

Hi Karen from the UK here just wanted to say.a big thank you to everyone involved, what a wealth of wisdom I can’t fail to benefit looking forward to tomorrow xxx

  22. suzcr6979

Thank you so much for offering this summit. I can’t imagine how much time and effort has gone into creating this opportunity, but I’m very grateful for it. These are many of the great teachers, thinkers and researchers of this topic. It can be difficult to get to hear them each individually, let alone all in one “place”. The fact that we can listen for free is really quite wonderful.

  23. Madeleine Eames

I am so enjoying this so far…what an opportunity to learn from great teachers. Thank you to all who put months and months, and really, many years into organizing this. It is such a task to even set up the digital process! I don’t know why in this world that, because it is a spiritual/helpful/compassionate teachings, that it is expected to be free. Would we ask this of doctors/physios/other professionals who have dedicated their life to helping others? There are numerous free resources online… we need to support those who are doing the work so they can continue to do the work and also support themselves, their families and their life’s work. Without some compensation, that all ends….

  24. Iris Wieman

Personally, I find it really painful to read the negative comments about the optional payments and the host. This summit is a gift that seems to come from the heart. People worked hard to make this happen and if I were them I’d be really hurt by some of the reactions. Isn’t mindfulness about wholesome actions and gratitude? Mind you, I’m judging others now, I do realize that. However, I agree with what Joseph has just said about mindfulness of speech. Melli and Matt, I love what you’re doing, keep up the good work!

    1. Charles E+Vigneau

Reading some of the post here it seems that some people are have I little trouble listening to the interviews because of things that are distracting them from what is be said. I had a small distraction at about 7:40 to 7:50 when a couple of birds flew by Milli. For me personally this was a blessing and I to feel the need to point this out . Remember people to be mindful is not to judge. Milli is doing and interview with these amazing people and sharing it with the world. Nmasta people

    2. Jackie Dixon

Couldn’t have said it better. Be mindful of what you are putting out there. Not sure what the purpose or point of the criticisms are. They bother me too, but I will let them all go. Thanks Melli & Matt. Just really enjoying what you are offering to the world.

  25. Adrienne Dolberry

Thank you again for another great talk. It was encouraging to hear about the ebbs and flows in our practice being part of the material we need to further cultivate insight. Loking forward to tomorrow’s talk!

  26. Anne

Thank you so much for making this opportunity available to so many. From today’s talk with Joseph Goldstein I recall two messages that resonate strongly with me and will stay with me through out this practice.. First the idea of fear, I realized that fear can hold us back from either not acting in a more conscious manner or choosing to act in such a way that we do not expose ourselves to the truth. The second is keep it “simple and easy”. I love that so much I may make a placard for my home as a reminder. Thank you again.

    1. Liz cooper

I’m glad I happened upon your comment because I’ll hold onto those two points today also. Thanks for being aware of those important points and for bringing them to my mindfulness practice. Fear is a major player in my arena.

  27. Scott

    Thanks Matt and Melli,

Talks are good, but a little long and large commitment of time. Like others, particularly the deaf, I listened to the talk yesterday and then read the available transcript and found the latter more valuable for processing the rich information.

While I understand that you need to make back costs and proceeds will go to charity (which ones?), it would be great if you could offer the transcripts on a limited basis along with the daily talks and/or a “Partial Access Pass” for those who cannot afford or don’t want the entire program. It would also be great to extract the practice sessions, either as part of Full Access or in a separate format, so people can return to the one’s they like and/or to provide a brief (2-3 page?) summary of the key points of the talk. The latter could be offered on a daily basis in lieu of full transcript if you’re concerned about providing daily access to this resource.

Otherwise great resource and I hope I’ll be able to find the time to listen to the daily talks.

  28. Michael Gainey

Thank you for this opportunity to listen to another expert on Mindfulness. I was also disappointed not to be able to save at least the transcript like yesterday but I appreciate the effort being made. I am enjoying the experience and look forward to the variety of speakers to come.

  29. Gwen Murphy

I resonate with the comments about “donation” and I also recognize the contribution by the organizers in terms of donating their time. I did make a “donation” in order to “purchase” (notice a bit of irony?) the material. And because I want to support the charities that will receive my financial contribution. As a donation, is it tax-deductible?

  30. Laura Sumelius

‘Simple & easy’ – that really stuck, you can just feel the weight coming off your shoulders when taking that approach to your thoughts and life. The first 2 days have been amazing, a big thank you to the organisers for such a great summit! Very much looking forward to the rest of the days!

    1. Margaret Lottridge

I am grateful for this opportunity to experience mindfulness teachings from a wide variety of teachers. This is possible through the generosity and talent of Melli and Matt so extra thanks to both of you.

  31. Billy Strean

There are some strong and consistent themes in the many comments above. Perhaps it is not too late to reconsider the model and take more of a Dana approach that is consistent with the tradition of mindfulness. It’s clear that the quality of the hosting/interviewing (and writing) has a lot of opportunity for improvement and may also speak to the appropriateness of changing the fees. You may be surprised that the generosity of Dana will bring you more than you might get with your current fee structure. We just had a meditation retreat that was completely based on Dana for both the registration and the teachings. It was a huge success.
