The Relationship Between Mindfulness & Spirital Awakening – Tami Simon

How Does Mindfulness Relate To Spiritual Awakening? An Interview & Meditation With Tami Simon

Tami Simon is the founder and publisher of Sounds True, a multimedia company dedicated to disseminating spiritual wisdom.

Sounds True is one of the world’s largest publishers of spoken-word spiritual teachings, and is one of the world’s first organizations to operate with genuinely Integral principles, with the emphasis on ‘multiple bottom lines’ of purpose, profit, people, and planet. Tami is also a meditation teacher, specialising in teaching ‘body based awareness’ practices.

Today, join Tami as she describes how mindfulness relates to ‘spiritual awakening’ and how our sense of who we are changes when we become more mindful.

She also offers creative ways to bring the ‘informal practice’ of mindfulness into daily life and work life and she shares how animals and nature can be helpful in reconnecting us with the present moment.

In this video you’ll also be guided by Tami, in an experience of ‘body based’ or ‘somatic’ meditation.

  1. Welcome to Day 6 Summiteers!

A big shoutout and thanks to Tami and the team at Sounds True, they’re partners and our biggest supporters of the summit. Its because of them, that every $ that summiteers donate to upgrade to full access passes go toward mindfulness based charities and not towards the costs of running servers, tech, marketing etc
Thank you so much for making this possible from everyone on the summit team 🙂
Be sure to check out the show notes above for links to their site… Enjoy the show!

    1. I want to echo Mattys comments above. A deep bow to Tami, Paul and the SoundsTrue team for believing in us and in this vision. These are a bunch of people who truly walk their talk in every interaction. Thank you so much guys.

      Tami, you are an inspiration.

      Love and respect – Melli

    2. Sally Weinstein

Thank you Tami for what was a beautiful place to be and share with you and Melli this morning.
Loved feeling connected to yourselves, others and the universe of experience.

Thank you Matt, Melli, Tami and all the people behind this summit. It’s been an incredible journey so far and I’m really grateful for this opportunity. People like you guys are changing the world for the better! All the best to each one of you! Jose from Paraguay

I am so grateful for this program. I have been buying from Sounds True for years. It was awesome meeting you. I loved your meditation. I also want to thank all of you who have put together this Summit. I have already purchased my Pass. I am taking notes, but it is so nice to know that I can go back to all of these resources…..forever. It is so worth it, even after the first day! Thank You…….Thank You……Thank You!

  2. Chrisy

Thank you both for this pleasurable and informative session. As a member of the Triratna Buddhist Community I engage in most of the meditations Tami mentioned; but I’ve never done a full body breathing exercise. I enjoyed it very much and will be adding it to my repertoire. I’ve enjoyed listening to Tami interview others on Sounds True for years but it was lovely to hear about her own journey.
ps Melli I think you were a bit nervous but you did really well <3

  3. Priscilla Lamya-Pullein

What an experience I had this morning with a guided semantic meditation with Tami. I don’t really have any words to describe the peace I have now. It is mind-blowing experience. Thank you to all the organisers. It changed my world.

  4. Kathy Karavas

Thank you to you both. Melli, you’re questions were insightful and I looked forward with interest and gratitude to your responses, Tami. You are inspirational and the full body breathing meditation you led was amazing. And thank you, Melli, for organizing this summit. (I also enjoyed watching the sun rise behind Melli as the interview progressed).

Hi I was very excited to hear Tami share today. I love the work you do at sounds true and enjoy storing the podcasts you create to listen to when I have time. You are totally inspirational. Sorry you have lost your companion but to hear you have a new one is great too. That was my first introduction to somatic meditation. It was very easy to follow with you. All the best to you Tami and thanks many times over Melli and your team. I am loving being exposed to the many speakers and I find you a lovely presence and way of interviewing. Maree NZ

  6. Helen Gibson

Thank you. I have never experienced a whole body breathing meditation before, I feel enlivened and my body feels tingly and new 😀
Fabulous feeling of connectedness to everything.
    Thank you.

  7. Megan Hansen-Knarhoi

As I listened to this podcast, I became intrigued by the concept of somatic meditation, but could not quite comprehend what it meant. I tried it for the first time whilst I continued to listen. I am enlivened by having breathed expansively with my whole being. Thank you.

  8. Rachel

Thanks so much Melli and Matt – i’ve watched all the interviews so far and they’ve all been so interesting – you’re doing a wonderful job. I am a big fan of Sounds True so it was great to hear Tami Simon this morning.

Thank you Tami for a wonderful re-alignment session and for reminding me of the responsibility to connect with myself. The secret breath exercise was so relaxing and I can imagine how healing it can be for parts of the body that’s really going through stress and pain. I can imagine how this practise can sensitize the whole body to be present and functioning to the optimum.

  10. Kate Megee

What an amazing guided meditation! I’ve never experienced anything like that before and feel the most intense sense of calm right now. I also loved Tami’s description of how beginning a meditation practice felt like a home coming for her and allowed her to be with herself and all of her thoughts and to be ok rather than caught up in them all and living a frantic life. I think there is a lot we can take away from that.

Thanks Melli. PS. Also loved watching the sunrise behind you 🙂 xxx

  11. Kim Fewings

Thank you for today’s talk, I really enjoyed the Full Body Breathing Meditation and intend to explore that technique more, thank you Tami. Keep up the great work Melli and the Mindfulness Summit Team.

  12. Ken Hodgson

That truly was a wonderful session from Tami. Not just for the meditation exercise on whole breathing but for Tami’s exploration ot the space we occupy both within us and externally. Allowing us to truly connect with oursekves and others So thank you fr that experience!

  13. MaryBeth

I love Tami Simon. She has been such a great support to me in my life with all the teachings that she freely offers through Sounds True.
She is authentic. I really appreciate who she is and what she does. The somatic secret breath meditation was amazing. Thank you, Tami!

  14. mariasaws1116

Tami’s talk resonated with me and I found it similar to what I do already. Thank you Tami, this was a wonderful talk. Melli I do appreciate what you have done in arranging this mindfulness summit. Thank you.

  15. I am joining the summit from Lugano Switzerland, full of gratidute for the many opportunities to explore the wide spectrum of awareness through meditation practices and much much more. WOW!
Thank you Melli and thanks to all involved in front of the camera and behind the scenes.

  16. Karen McMullen

Thank you thank you thank you! That was amazing, and what I needed to start my day! I feel like I found a piece of what I am seeking. The total body breathing is restorative and energizing.

  17. Elizabeth Cush

Thank you Melli for providing the space and opportunity for us to learn and experience all that mindfulness has to offer. The journey is new for me and I am gaining more insight into my own practice each day.

  18. Michelle Harrison

Wow for a moment there I was trying to feel breath in my toe but I found it and then by the time I got to my belly I was floating. that was so beautiful. Thank you for teaching that taming. I found you a very wise soul

  19. Dana Urban

Really enjoyed Tami’s interview and meditation practice. I shall certainly start doing the ‘whole body breathing ‘ meditation form now on. Thank you Mellie and thank you Tami., all your hard work is MUCH appreciate…. Dana (London, UK) xx

  20. Susan Saunders

Thank you Melli – the team – and Tami for today’s interview and meditation practice. Truly both calming and uplifting. I too enjoyed the morning unfolding with the sun rising behind Melli. On a personal note we have a 9 year old dog named Jasmine who we share our lives with and who is such an integral part of all in our life. Jasmine’s mother Lili ‘left her physical life behind’ a few months ago which reminded us again of the impermanence of all things – and the awareness of our wish to make the most of every moment.

  21. Sandra Macher

I am almost delighted to be ill in bed with the flu – it is the perfect opportunity to dig into the whole concept of mindfulness and try out all the wonderful practical guided awareness-training-bits such as the eating yesterday and the somatic body scan with Tami.
I feel truly connected with you all out there.
Thank you so much for all the work you and your team have put into this special summit. I also thoroughly enjoy your questions Melli, as I see new and deeper aspects of your interviewees I have not known before. Also you give them (and us!) the chance to be truly themselves.
This month is the best line-up for the long winter coming along in Switzerland!

  22. John Fisher

Very good interview today. I’m getting much more out of the program than when it first started. Melli I did struggle with your interview style, etc. in the beginning but I have grown comfortable with you and the program as a whole. Thanks so much for this opportunity!

  23. Nserina Chan

Tami looked so somber until she smiled talking about Jasmine! I was sorry to hear that the pet is no longer around. I feel your loss Tami.

Thanks for all the goodness that has come to me from Sounds True, including this Mindfulness Summit. Today’s interview was excellent; I felt joy doing the somatic practice. Thanks Melli and Tami.

  24. Liz

This was a beautiful conversation. I love Tami Simon’s voice and her wisdom. I found the mediation most interesting and realised that I am unaware of most of my body when I sit down and really think about it. The shadows on the wall were absolutely lovely.

  25. Ellen Cedergreen

Best one for me. Cannot thank you enough. Body based meditation is something I am excited to pursue. Had a great experience with it this morning. If you are a person who likes the relaxation that comes with movement or exercise, I highly recommend integrating this into your practice. It’s like metta x 1,000, 000.

Tami, I am so sorry for your loss with Jasmine. I have a similar connection with dogs. Thank you so much for your lifelong work in spiritual matters. Your meditation was very effective and I am excited to learn/ practice more.

And thank you Mindfulness Summit team for all your hard work bringing this to us. It’s a truly amazing resource.

  26. Kelly

What a wonderful redirection my day took after experiencing the time with you, Melli and Tami. So enjoyed the meditation. Looking forward to digesting the soundstrue.com and downloading the podcasts. Thank you thank you.

  27. Eric Dugas

First, I would like to apologize for the bad quality of my english, as my natural language is french.
In a very spontaneous way, I really want to say that I enjoy this summit very much. It happens in a moment of my life in which I tought that I should do mindfulness practice but I needed something special to give me the motivation and the strenght to do so. Now…I am in, with the hope and the desire to make this an habit.

I would like to thank all the people that make this summit a reality and say hello to everyone in the community of people who are enthusiastics about this summit.
    Thank you so much!

  28. Elnour Dafeeah

That was really enjoyable particularly the body meditation. I have listen to Tami before interviewing others but never being interviewed herself. So, I really benefited and learn a lot from Tami and from her body meditation practice which gave a different experience. It was also good to know that there is no one way to practice mediation and no particular time length, and meditation can be tailored to everyone (one practicing alone). Thank you very much Melli and thank you Tami for this opportunity.

  29. Kristy brake

Really loving this daily check in with great presenters. Some is reminder, some is fresh and new to me. Both are welcome!
I wonder how many people in Australia are doing this course. Do you get a country by country break down. Be great to see a world map with figures in each country of participants!!!! So great that so many are in it!!!

  30. jeanette

Each day’s meditation has been a blessing. I very much appreciated today’s and will listen to Tami’s pod cast. Thank you for having us participate in the summit.
