Tara Brach – Ending ‘The Trance Of Unworthiness’

Tara Brach On How To End ‘The Trance Of Unworthiness’ & Move Through Fear

Tara Brach is a leading Western teacher of Buddhist meditation, emotional healing and spiritual awakening. She has practiced and taught meditation for over 35 years, with an emphasis on mindfulness meditation. Tara is the senior teacher and founder of the Insight Meditation Community of Washington and author of several books on meditation and spiritual awakening.

In this video Tara gives a heartfelt talk about the ‘trance of unworthiness’ and how mindfulness can help us wake up into a more connected and loving sense of self.

She teaches about the essence of the spiritual path and how waking up to our true nature can alleviate our suffering, help us move through fear, and bring us home to who we truly are.

Thank You so much. A great teacher and a speaker.
Everything is up to us selves. The change starts from each one of us.
It doesn`t need to mean We don`t have to be interested also of the
        outer world surrounding us.
But this is the start which I been waiting for years. A Great gift.

Sincerely Thanks for Great and powerful lecture

I really miss Melly here and a real conversation! For me this is Tara Brach doing her lecture-teaching, and the Content may be even new to many People – but it is not at all same process as when Melly and guests are co-creating in the very moment their inquiry into mindfulness…. So thank you for this ‘class’ as Tara Brach herself calls it….but thank you so much more for the availabiliy of Melly and her guests in the interviews that I have seen so far.

Great to not have a “conversation” today. I was hoping for a programme more like the TED presentations. Would have been great to watch or listen to Ruby Wax not in “conversation”. She was quite stimulating. More often than not I have been skipping through the dialogue as I get a bit bored. I think that 30 to 40 minutes is a good time frame in which to get the message across.

I have especially loved the last 3 sessions. This session was so wonderful. I found a deep sense of groundedness and a feeling of being ok and finally home after my first Vipassana retreat. On a latter one, after silence was broken three of us met and noted how we had all struggled with the noting that we are all selfish and to consider others: we noted that for those of us who may be very conscientious and feeling that we can never measure up, approaching ourselves in the way Tara describes is so important and that we sit with a gentleness, rather than a harshness that can come when we do not approach ourselves first with love and nourishment, because self hurt can be so ingrained.
I am really enjoying all the suggestions and tips too: I will aim to practice those two wings: fabulous 🙂

Hi Sarah. Would be interested to find out more about how you found the Vipsssana retreat as I’m thinking about doing one. Would you recommend it? Any top tips please? Thanks. Sheila (London, UK)

I have been enjoying the conversations greatly, but I think it is valuable for people to experience different formats. I found this session uplifting. Thanks Tara and thanks mindfulness summit!

    Hai to the Mindfulness team,

I have been watching and listening to the talks this far. It is just fantastic. Amazing the varying perspectives and paths which will help us to the same goal.

I just cannot thank all of you enough. Meli you are doing great job with your questions.

Thank you Tara for reminding me of The Sacredness of the Pause:

‘THERE IS SPACE BETWEEN THE STIMULUS AND RESPONSE’. IN THAT SPACE IS MY POWER AND MY FREEDOM’ -Viktor Frankel

    Thanks for the stories too.

Thank you, Thank you, Thank you ???? to Mellie and all the speakers and to everyone involved with the Mindfulness Summit. It is helping me so much!

My counseller suggested that I downloaded an app on mindfulness and meditation which I did 6 weeks ago. It has helped me to let go of past painful experiences and to forgive the people who gave them to me. I now struggle with self acceptance and self love for I was never given these tools to begin with. I have enjoyed listening to each interview daily with openness and the willingness to change my belief system. I found today’s teachings with Tara Brach especially poignant and connected fully with everything she said for I am an over eater and have suffered with weight issues all my life. I continuously put myself down and feel unworthy, at times it is exhausting! I cried pretty much throughout the whole of the talk but believe this to be a good thing.
Thank you again for putting this summit together to help people like myself. You are all amazing ????

    Lou Snape ❤️

Wow – that was beautiful and very touching, thank you Tara. You really spoke to the heart of our dissatisfaction with ourselves. I wish I had heard this message much sooner on my path to self awareness and self acceptance. Y

  8. Linda

Thank you, this was very beautiful. I am very grateful for this summit and Tara’s session today made me cry, maybe from relief? Her words touched me very deeply. Thanks for sharing and making this world even more beautiful.

    1. Luisa D'Arista

I agree with Linda, why are you being so critical? Perhaps Melli was sick or maybe Tara not available since they live in different continents… and thank you Tara for helping us all.

  9. Elnour Dafeeah

Thank you very much Tara for raising the bar. This a wonderful, touching, and practical session. As usual, what comes out of your talks and lectures is always awesome and of true benefit. Thank you very much for your kindness, wisdom and compassion….

  10. Sara Croken

Wow, that really touched a deep nerve. Very powerful. The story of the golden Buddha covered in plaster really resonated with the way I hide myself. Thank you so much Tara!

  11. Niki Rose

I have enjoyed all of the sessions…but particularly this one.
For me it has been a good thing that you have decided to remove each session after 24 hours. That way I have had to listen to the talks in the allotted time instead of downloading them to listen later (or not!)

  12. Rena Papatheofilou

Thanks for a great summit so far. I have enjoyed all the sessions and find value in all of them. I really appreciate all the hard work you’ve put into this and am grateful that you’ve shared it with us.

  13. Rose Chan

I really enjoy the full presence of Tara, totally felt sense of connection to self. Inspiring and uplifting real stories and words for healing. Thank you so much Tara and all at the summit for making things happen so wonderfully. In gratitude.

  14. Chrisy

I’m disappointed that this wasn’t an ‘interview’. I’ve listened to many of Tara’s talks and today’s talk repeated anecdotes and information I’ve heard from Tara many times. Yes it’s wonderful information; but I was so looking forward to an interview with this lady….

  15. Therese Gates

Have learnt and expanded my understanding with every session. Loved Tara’s gentle teaching and have taken to heart her encouragement to ‘trust and live from our deep goodness’. Thanks for a great summit

  16. Kristy

Dear Tara, I just wanted to thank you from the bottom of my heart. My Mum passed away five and a half years ago and I have really struggled. I found your free pod casts online and you have been my salvation. Thank you so much for making such a huge difference in my life and my children’s life. You speak from the heart and I feel blessed to have found you. You have been a big part of my healing journey. Thank you to Mellie for organising such an inspirational event, I have watched every speaker and been totally inspired. ❤️ xo

    1. Naphtali Zimmerman

Kristy great testimonial. It took me a lot of time to adjust the lose of my parents. It is hard at times to expose your heart and Tara reminds us that it is OK to do that.

  17. Jo Savva

Thank you so much Tara. Lovely talk. I’m a newbie to the practice of Mindfullness, Meditation and self-love. Unfortunately my most dominant emotion has become that of suffering. and i know these practices will take time, healing will always take time. Thank you for your calming words and refreshing insight.

  18. Linda Keys

Although I’ve enjoyed the interviews, this is my favorite speaker so far. The focus on the pause, the two wings and the words of Rumi, Frankl and Merton were inspiring.

  19. Tony Pantaleno

I first heard Tara’s beautiful talk about eight years ago at a mindfulness event here in NYC. It was a transformative experience for me personally and spoke to the heart of all I had been unable to capture even as a practicing psychologist of thirty years at that time. Now, eight years later, I listen over and over again to this wisdom with every one of my patients when the time is right. I offer it as a gift to friends and loved ones. I go back to it myself on dark days. Yes, we would have all loved Melli’s smile, gentle presence, and thoughtful questions, but for whatever reason the format was changed for this one session, we are blessed by having this particular message put out there for the world. For me, it is THE reason we embark on a life of mindfulness- to come home to the love that is in each of our hearts. Perhaps coincidentally, but perhaps not, today, October 9th would have been John Lennon’s 75th birthday. John and Tara are soul mates – together they remind us that all we need is love. Thanks to Melli and the mindfulness summit team for bringing us the Woodstock of our day.

To Melli and everyone on the Summit team, thank you. It is amazing how much I am learning about myself and how I’m only just starting out on my journey of self discovery, thanks to the vast knowledge of the excellant speakers we have listened to on the Summit, so far. I am looking forward to listening to the wisdom of the next speakers.

For someone who has lead a traumatic life, through injury, I thank Tara for todays talk, about moving the fear out. It was an inspiring talk and I felt something in my heart, at the close of her talk.

    Thank you

  21. Teresa McCormack

Wow thank you Tara – your presence and preciseness in relation to unworthiness and forgiveness of ourselves was so beautiful, I loved it, thank you so much! Thanks Melli and the team for a fabulous summit!

  22. Scherazade King

I was really moved by Tara’s class and attribute it’s impactfulness to her being given the space to just share without the frame given by an interview format with its prompts and questions. I greatly appreciate the wisdom and flexibility of the summit organizers in using formats where Melli may not be present to accomplish the larger mission of this movement! This class really created a shift and an opening for me. Thank YOU.

  23. Patti Shea

I feel so blessed to be sampling all of the different aspects of mindfulness as I begin my journey. I felt very much at peace with Tara and will take with me her message of self compassion. Thank you for all of the blessings you are sending my way with this summit.

  24. Victoria Kamhi

First of all – thank you Melli for putting together this amazing summit – I can’t even imagine what a daunting task this has been. Please know that you have touched the lives of so many people – I will be forever grateful for your dedication to being of service to others.

I especially loved listening to Tara and have realized how much my negative self-talk has been affecting me lately. I plan on re-reading Radical Acceptance. I am also preparing to participate in my first 7-day silent retreat (yikes!) and will focus on being compassionate to myself throughout this new experience.

  25. Christina Papageorgopoulou

Thank you Tara! Your words touched my very core, my golden self! Your metaphors, examples and analogies created pictures in my mind of the life lessons you presented here. Beautiful, peaceful, inspired is how I feel!

  26. Dina Dee

This presentation with Tara is one of the most brilliant talks yet! I was and am totally positively effected by her amazing insight, wisdom, and communication skills. She is 100% bang on!

I also so prefer the speaker being able to tell their story as instead of an interview questioning process. Addressing some important or key questions is good but allowing the speaker to express themselves in their own way is preferred with me.

Thank you all. I loooooove this summit. /Dina Dee Paige Transgender women of 60 in Toronto Canada

  27. Lyla Burnor

Thank you Tara for reminding us of this basic principle of self compassion. I believe it is key to the life changing and world changing energy of mindfulness practice.

And thank you to the Mindfulness Summit team for all the hard work I know went into providing us with such a wonderful experience of hearing many different minds and perspectives. I look forward to the coming days with an intention to practice creating a spacious, open and nonjudgmental time to listen in throughout the month.

    In gratitude,

  28. Shari-Lynn Hiltz

The variety of the podcasts and speakers has been wonderful; something for everyone, new or practiced. I thoroughly enjoyed Tara’s approach of gentleness and examples. A great way to start a Saturday. Grateful for the opportunity.
